BEPA publishes original article “Association between self-perceived health, food markers and nutritional status: Vigitel survey in the state of São Paulo”

The original article “Association between self-perceived health, food markers and nutritional status: Vigitel survey in the state of São Paulo” published in BEPA, in December 2022, evaluated the prevalence of self-perceived health in adults and elderly people in the state of São Paulo Paul.

The study was carried out with more than eight thousand individuals, self-perception of health was categorized into positive and negative. Markers of healthy and unhealthy eating patterns and nutritional status according to body mass index were considered.

Negative self-perception was higher among the elderly, obese and people with the habit of consuming soft drinks five or more days a week. Among adults who regularly consumed fruits and vegetables or more minimally processed food groups, they had a greater chance of positive self-perception. In total, 74.2% and 25.8% of respondents reported positive and negative self-perception, respectively.
